But for the most part the diets main features are liquids, fruits and vegetables. Eat plenty of small meals throughout the day to keep your blood sugar in check. Many alcoholics will also suffer from blood sugar problems. After the recovery period some former drinkers will benefit from a low glycemic diabetic type diet.

There are some foods that you will need to avoid while doing the alcohol detox diet. Those foods are hot dogs, burgers, fried foods, French fries and other fatty foods. These are not only unhealthy for most people, but extremely unhealthy for the person going through alcohol withdrawal. Stay away from anything with sugar, including candy, ice cream, cakes, chocolate and soda. By avoiding these sugary snacks you will be able to keep your blood sugars in check. Avoid drinking caffeine and do not drink alcohol. By avoiding these foods and drinks your detox should go much smoother.

The complete process of alcohol detox can take several weeks to complete. Abstaining from your alcohol addiction is an ongoing journey and it is advised to find a support group. Continue with healthy eating, drinking eight full glasses of water a day, vitamins, minerals and sobriety.
